- What do we do in Music Class anyway?
-
Music helps us all. Think about it. When you are celebrating, there is music. When you are sad or lonely, a song can help you feel better. When you want to be quiet, music in the background can soothe you. When you want to party, music pumps you up.
In music class, we celebrate all of that and more. We learn how music can join us together. We learn about music from the past and present. We learn how things have changed and how they have stayed the same. We will learn about famous musicians, composers and songs as well as instruments. songs and games from all over the world. My biggest hope is to expose students to as many different types of music as possible so that they leave my class feeling that they have something to turn to in any situation.
Music is an experience and participation class. We will move. We will play instruments. We will sing. We will dance. We will listen. We will THINK about what we hear and how we respond to the music. We will experience thoughts and feelings about others and the world around us, all without leaving the room!
With that being said, it is very important that you try your best! In a group of musicians, the group only performs well if all members contribute. Grades in music are based on participation and effort, not talent or performance. As long as a student is making an effort to join in, and is truly attempting to show some growth in mastering the music standards, his or her music grade will reflect satisfactory progress.
We will primarily use three websites in the course of the year. We will use these websites to communicate, for projects, for in-class activities and for any digital learning days that occur. First, for communication purposes, be sure to connect with your homeroom teacher's Class Dojo. Your specials teachers are linked to this site and we can communicate through this platform as well as through email.
We will communicate assignments and digital instruction through Paulding County's Canvas portal. Your homeroom teacher will help you with your login information.
For online music activities, both in the classroom and at home, we will be using our online curriculum, QuaverMusic. I will be giving instruction on how to access Quaver from home. You should be able to click the Quaver icon directly from your student dashboard. This site has several fun activities to enhance music appreciation and learning. Plus, it's just fun to look around! We will use it a lot in class, so students will become more and more familiar as the year goes by.
We will be as distanced as possible. We will sanitize all materials both before and after each use. I will do my very best to keep every child safe and secure. That is my promise to you.
We will share. We will create. We will grow. We will feel. We will explore limits. We will soar. We will grow.
