Ragsdale Elementary

 

1. What time does school start? School begins at 8:00 a.m., and it is very important that your child be in his/her classroom on time.

 

2. What time may I drop off my child at school? Students may not be dropped off for school before 7:30 a.m.

 

3. When does school dismiss? School dismisses between 2:20-2:30 p.m. daily. There are no check-outs after 2:00 p.m.

 

4. How do I make transportation changes? All transportation changes from the norm and given to your child's teacher. All notes and communications should be placed in the plastic pocket in the take home folder. Please do not email changes in transportation as your teacher may not read the email in time.

 

5. What do I do if my child is absent? Parents must send a written excuse within three days of any absence. The office will be notified after 3 unexcused absences.

 

6. I would like to volunteer. Do you want a volunteer? Volunteers are greatly appreciated in the classroom. Please let your child's teacher know if you'd like to volunteer in any way.

 

7. How can I make my child's birthday special? On or around your child’s birthday you may send in a birthday snack for a lunch celebration. Please do not send anything that will need to be cut. All foods must be pre-packaged with an ingredient and nutrition list displayed. Please send note 2-3 days prior to bringing the snack so plans can be arranged. Please do not send party invitations to school to be passed out unless every child in the class is included

 

8. Is my child allowed to have a snack in class? Please send a healthy snack for your child. It is optimal if it is a nutritious/light snack (pretzels, granola bars, -no candy, suckers, or gum please). No water bottles please. We have a water fountain in the classroom that is cleaned daily.

 

9.  Will my child have homework? Home work will be assigned on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.  Homework will include a nightly reading log, a brief math review and study of spelling and vocabulary words for the week. This will be listed on the weekly newsletter.

 

10. What is blue folder used for? The blue take home folder will go to and from school with your child every day. I will check folders every morning. If there is anything you want to let me know, put a note in the front pocket of the folder. Please place all parent notes, transportation changes, and monies in the front pocket of your child’s folder.

 

11. What should I do with medication? All medication, including cough drops, must be sent directly to the school nurse. No exceptions! Please notify the teacher if your child has any allergies. If your child has asthma, please make sure your child has an inhaler in the nurse's office.

 

12. How do I get in touch with the teacher? There are three ways to communicate with the teacher. Call the school at (770) 443-2140 with any questions. You may have to leave a message, but the teacher will check messages after school is dismissed for the day. You can email the teacher. Ms.Leahy's email is tleahy@paulding.k12.ga.us  This is the best way to receive a timely response to non-transportation related issues during school hours. Please remember not to send transportation changes via email; they will not be accepted. You can contact the teacher via the blue folder. Folders will be checked every morning. Please send any notes in the blue take home folder.

 

13. Why is it important that I stay involved? Parent involvement is critical to student learning and success. The Parent Teacher Association, www.pta.org, shares many thoughts on the importance of parent involvement. According to them, “Decades of research show that when parents are involved students have higher grades, test scores, and graduation rates, better school attendance, increased motivation, better self-esteem, lower rates of suspension, decreased use of drugs and alcohol, fewer instances of violent behavior, and greater enrollment rates in post-secondary education.” You can further assist your child in being more successful by providing a well-lit study area each evening, a scheduled time for reading and homework, all of the necessary tools of learning-pencil, paper, notebooks, folders, etc., and daily encouragement and motivation.

 

14. When will I get a class newsletter? A class newsletter will come home weekly. This newsletter will contain important information. Please keep this newsletter in your child’s take-home folder, in the page protector provided. The Ragsdale Review, a school newsletter, will come home monthly. This newsletter will be curriculum-related and will share information about the Common Core Georgia Performance Standards (CCGPS), school improvement data, updates on school improvement goals, and calendar info.  You will also find a copy of the class newsletter on my class website once the site has been updated
