Ms. Katie Matthews - Music Teacher

My name is Katie Matthews. This is my 17th year teaching and my 16th year at Union. I taught one year in Dalton, Georgia prior to coming to Union. I graduated from Berry College in 2004 with a Bachelors degree in Music Education and have been teaching ever since. I received my master’s degree in Music Education from Piedmont College. I love teaching music and I feel it is an art form that every child can benefit from in one way or another. My goal is to help each child learn how to express themselves musically through singing, dancing, and playing all types of instruments. I also want each child to be able to strive to reach their highest musical potential and be able to pursue music in the future if they so choose.

I have three beautiful children, Jessie, Riliegh, and Christian. Jessie is 13 and is in the 8th grade. Rileigh is 7, and will be in 2nd grade, and Christian is 6 and will be entering Kindergarten. I also have a fiance, Marty, and three step children. We love spending time with family, swimming, and playing games together. I also love spending time with my mom, Mary Lynn, who is my best friend!
