Welcome to Herschel Jones' Title I Page

Title I at Herschel Jones Middle School

Title I is a federally funded program that allows us to provide additional support for students and families at Herschel Jones Middle School. The number of students eligible for free and reduced lunch determines if the school receives federal funds. However, the funds can be used to assist any student identified through academic-based ranking criteria, regardless of the family's income.

What is the Purpose of a Title I Program?

The goal of Title I is to ensure that all students have a fair, equal, and significant opportunity to receive a high-quality education and reach proficiency on state achievement standards and assessments. The program provides extra educational support beyond regular classroom instruction. Title I programs focus on improving student achievement and include strategies to encourage parental involvement.

How Do Schools Receive Funding for Title I Programs?

Schools receive Title I funds based on the number of students identified for free and/or reduced lunch. At Herschel Jones Middle School, the funds are specifically targeted to close academic gaps in mathematics, numerical reasoning for students who are identified based on academic need.

    Title I Teacher

The Title I teachers at Herschel Jones Middle School provide supplemental educational opportunities for students. This includes targeted support related to students' performance in the numerical reasoning domain and the school’s overall objectives. The Title I teachers serve students through connections in small groups for focused academic support.

    Family Engagement Events

Our family engagement program offers innovative ways for schools to work collaboratively with families to build effective partnerships. This year, we will host multiple opportunities for parents to participate in both daytime and evening events focused on learning and engagement.

Family engagement emphasizes the idea that schools thrive when families and teachers work together as genuine partners, maximizing student learning both inside and outside the classroom. It focuses on aligning curriculum, instruction, and assessment to improve student achievement by connecting learning at home and at school.

    Title I Stakeholder Meeting

All stakeholders, including parents, school staff, students, and community members, are invited to participate in the Title I Stakeholder Meeting. During this meeting, we will present a summary of the 2023-2024 Title I program, its effectiveness, and the progress made toward meeting goals. Relevant data will be discussed, and input will be gathered for setting goals and initiatives for the 2024-2025 school year.

    • Computers and software to support the Georgia Standards of Excellence (GSE).
