Austin Middle

             

Hello and welcome! I thought I'd take  a moment to let you know a little bit about me. 

I am a Georgia native, but I have lived most of my life in beautiful sunny Southern California. I attended college at California State University, San Bernardino and transferred to Kennesaw State University when I moved to Georgia thirteen years ago. I graduated with honors from Kennesaw State University with a degree in Middle Grades Science and ELA education. After graduating from KSU, I had a wonderful opportunity to work as an Environmental Educator behind the scenes at the Georgia Aquarium in Atlanta. That experince provided me with the chance to work with students of all ages (K-college), from schools all over the United States. I recieved my Master's degree in Middle Grades Science from Piedmont College, and then I continued on at Piedmont college to recieve my Education Specialist Degree in Curriculum and Instruction. I am also certified in Gifted instruction and Special Education. I consider myself a lifelong leaner, so I plan to continue on with my formal education to pursue my doctorate in the near future.

This year marks my eighth year at Austin Middle School, and I am so thrilled to be teaching 8th grade Physical Science! I have also taught 7th and 6th grade here at AMS.  Science is my absolute favorite subject, so I'm looking forward to sharing my passion with each of my students this year.  I am also a self proclaimed book worm who enjoys writing too. Believe it or not though, I wasn't always an eager writer, especially when I was a middle school student. Since our school has a goal of increasing literacy and writing skills for all of our students, I will be implementing activities in our science classroom to help foster growth in those areas as well. I'm looking forward to seeing all of my 8th grade students achieve great things this year as they prepare for their future in high school and beyond. 

When I am not teaching, I  love spending time with my family, traveling, reading, or just hanging out at the beach. I love the ocean, all things Disney, all things related to Superheroes, and all things Sci-Fi. I'm a huge 80s pop culture geek as well. I live in Paulding County with my husband and our two college age sons.
