    6th Grade Chorus Class
    7th Grade Chorus Class
    8th Grade Chorus Class

    Format:
    Year-long Courses

    Purpose:

The Austin Middle School Choral Program is available to all students regardless of previous experiences or skills. The choruses perform in mandatory evening concerts, district and state choruses and assemblies. Often, the chorus is invited to perform for conferences and/or community events.

    Goals:

The chorus students will study to develop sight singing skills, choral tone and independence when singing their assigned choral part.
Students will learn to sing songs in which voices may sing in unison or in harmony. Choruses will sing accompanied or a cappella.
Sight reading and music theory will prepare students to be independent singers.
While learning songs, the chorus will also be introduced to the history and social cultures of the music's origins. Texts will often be examples of poetry by significant authors. Foreign languages will be introduced.
Chorus students will become fluent in the vocabulary describing musical style and technique, vocal production and performance skills. Students will actively critique their performance and will view and listen to performance of other choruses providing additional critiquing experiences.
