Advanced Classes and the Gifted Program (Venture)
The gifted model is structured to enable gifted endorsed teachers the opportunity to expand access, infuse rigor, set high expectations, and implement differentiated strategies into more subjects which will impact more students. Students in grades 6-8 may be served daily through Advanced Language Arts, Mathematics, Social Studies and/or Science (depending on their area or areas of qualification). Advanced courses are significantly different (more rigorous) in content, pace, process skills, and student expectations. Using this model, students will be better prepared for the rigor of the high school honors and Advanced Placement curriculum. Additionally, students may take Honors Literature, Algebra, and/or Physical Science for high school credit during their 8th grade year provided they meet the specified criteria. Students will be identified in 7th grade and offered the opportunity to take a Spanish course in the 7th and 8th grade for one year of high school credit as well.
